Try with sample data

Filling a new shop with a realistic sample of its own kind in one click, what the sample holds, what to try with it, and taking exactly that sample out again.

A new shop is empty: no products, no sales, nothing in the reports. Sample data fills it in one click with a realistic sample of your kind of shop, so you can see Today, the reports and the till at work before you type your own list. Remove sample data takes exactly that sample out again. It is on every CreekPOS Online plan and in the trial.

Loading the sample

The Try with sample data card is in three places:

  • the getting-started checklist (Get started), above the steps (see The getting-started checklist);
  • Add products in the checklist, as a fourth way next to the catalogue, a CSV file and an empty start;
  • Settings → Data, with the moment the sample was loaded.

Only the owner loads and removes the sample; a manager sees whether it is there. Press Load sample data. A second press adds nothing.

The sample follows the shop type you picked in Get started: a café, canteen or roastery gets the café sample; a restaurant, the restaurant sample; a pharmacy, the pharmacy sample; a boutique, tailor or perfume shop, the clothes sample; any other shop (or one that has not picked a type yet) the grocery sample.

The sample goes only into a shop that has not sold yet: a shop on its trial, or a paid shop that never made a real sale. A load does not start when:

  • the shop already has real sales (the card then says that sample data goes only into a shop that has not sold yet);
  • a load or a removal is already running (try again in a minute);
  • the shop is read-only, or an import from the desktop program is running;
  • your plan has no room for the sample's products (nothing is added).

What the sample holds

KindWhat a load adds
Products40 to 62 products of your kind, in their categories, with pictures (the UAE catalogue's picture where the barcode is in it), prices in AED, and sizes and add-ons where your kind uses them. English names with Arabic alternatives; Arabic first when the shop's language is Arabic
StockIn every branch; some products running low, some close to expiry
Customers8, a few of them on account with a part payment or two
Suppliers3 or 4, with their deliveries, invoices and payments; the last ones still open
TeamA cashier or two, within your plan's number of accounts
Sales25 days of receipts up to now, at your kind's busy hours: cash, card, split and on account, a discount now and then, a void and a return here and there; one closed shift a day with the drawer counted
ExpensesRent, salaries, bills and the small weekly costs

A product whose name or barcode you already have is left out. Your own VAT and service charge settings apply. The pictures count in your plan's picture space.

The sample receipts have their own numbers, from SAMPLE0-000001, apart from yours: no till's numbers move, so your first real receipt is still T1-000001. The getting-started steps never count the sample.

What to try

  • Today: the day's sales, sales by hour, the best sellers, what is running low or expiring, who owes money.
  • Reports: sales, profit, the VAT collected, sales by cashier, the shifts and their drawer counts.
  • Ask your shop: "sales this week", "who owes me", "what is running low" (see Ask your shop).
  • The reorder list and the near-expiry board, if you use them (see Reorder and expiry).
  • The till: a sample cashier has a random password. Set one on the Team page to sign in to the till as that cashier and sell a sample product.

A real sale is real: after it the shop has sold, so the load button goes away. Remove sample data keeps working and leaves your sale in place. The sample does not switch features on: tables, the kitchen or shifts stay as you set them.

Removing the sample

Press Remove sample data on the card (the checklist or Settings → Data) and confirm Remove the sample data? What you added yourself stays.

It deletes only what the load wrote: the sample products and their stock, customers and their accounts, suppliers and their deliveries, the sample cashiers, receipts, shifts and expenses. The categories the sample added go too, unless one of your own products uses one; pictures nothing else uses are released. The tills reload.

What you made yourself stays, also what you made while the sample was there: your products, customers and suppliers, and your real receipts, even one that sold a sample product (the receipt keeps its lines; the product is gone like any deleted product).

Remove sample data stays on the card as long as the sample is there, also after real sales. It waits only while a load or removal is already running. An import from the desktop program that replaces everything also takes the sample out.
